Designer Statement
Hello!
My name is Grace Guetter. And art has always been in my life. When I was little, my mom would have my twin sister and I do creative art projects. We would do collage, paint, and draw. We painted pictures we saw off of Pinterest and drew characters and flowers. Pretty quickly we were playing with Publisher, PowerPoint, and Canva, making newsletters and posters. I ventured into photography in middle school, then studied it at a local community
college during high school.
college during high school.
This lead my into graphic design. I learned about designing from life experiences and things I witnessed. My design is inspired by nature and its beauty. I desire to add beauty to the world. The aesthetic I lean towards tends to have a sense of comfort and simplicity. I use color and typography to create a sense of peace for onlookers. I want to create something that doesn’t take away the beauty in people’s lives, but adds to it.
Biography
Grace Guetter was born in Rochester, MN. She grew up in a family of five, with a twin sister and younger sister. She was home schooled most of her life, but pursued her associate degree in liberal arts & sciences and her photography certificate in her last two years of high school. One of the first creative paths she pursued was photography. She learned from online classes and other photographers at her church until she reached high school. After she graduated, she decided to pursue graphic design as a career. To do this, she enrolled in South Dakota State University.
As she grew up, she had various jobs. When she was ten years old, she started helping a flower farmer down the street from her home. She helped plant the bulbs in the spring, pick weeds and make bouquets in the summer, and dig up the bulbs in the fall. From this early of an age, she learned about the importance and satisfaction of hard work. These values followed her into her work for Allstate Car Wash & Storage, a company her parents owned.
She was instilled with the idea of taking real ownership in her job and her work. She learned to take pride in her personal work ethic and the success of the company she worked for, all before the age of eighteen.

She accomplished many achievements during her college careers, such as winning a Gold American Advertising Award in the Student Cross Platform Design category and graduating Summa Cum Laude. Her professors remarked that she had an unexpected and unconventional perspective on color and has a wide range of design capabilities.
After graduating, she spent the summer in Colorado Springs and a Graphic Design Intern for the Creative Services Department at Focus on the Family. Here she continued to push her skills as a designer and learn from professionals about their workflow and specialties in illustration, publication, and advertising design.
